Frequently Asked Questions

Hi Folks....  This page is where I'll attempt to answer your questions about my products, services, and whatever else you throw my way.  I polled a number of friends to see which "Frequently Asked Questions" (and answers!) should go up first.  Check below for the results.

If, after reading the questions and answers below, you didn't get an answer you were looking for, then please don't hesitate to send an e-mail and ask me your question!  If I think it's of general enough interest, I'll likely post your question here along with my answer.  Thank you!

Why are you selling all of this stuff?  Are you disposing of your collection?

I'm selling it to make some room!  And no, I'm certainly not disposing of my collection! It's simple, really: Over the years, I've amassed a vast collection of "ventriloquiana."  I've purchased a number of collections and acquired other items piece by piece.  I'm continually looking to upgrade.  When I found a better Charlie bank than the one I had, I bought the better one.  I subsequently sold the "lesser" one to another collector who was happy to get it.  And so the cycle continues!  Always upgrading, always looking for collections.  In quite a number of instances, I've found myself buying a collection of twenty, thirty or even more items just to acquire a few specific pieces in the collection that I didn't already have.  After getting those few "wants" and then comparing items I already had with other items in the collection for possible upgrading, I was still left with an entire collection.  So....those items get marked for sale.

The founder of Vent Haven Museum, the late W.S. Berger, coined that term.  "Ventriloquiana" is anything and everything to do with ventriloquists and/or ventriloquism.  In fact, W.S. referred to himself as the very first "ventriloquarian."

Can we see this "ventriloquiana" in person?

Unfortunately, I don't have a retail store (talk about a niche market!). I do, however, have a large display at the Vent Haven ConVENTion each July. I hope you'll attend the annual Vent Haven ConVENTion at least once, because if you do, I'm confident you'll want to come back again and again. Not just because of my display, of course... but simply because it's the greatest gathering of ventriloquial talent and enthusiasts anywhere!

If you're going to be passing through the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area some time other than during the annual ConVENTion, it's possible we can get together for a visit and you can see some of the "Gottle O' Geer" stock.  Of course, if you want to see something specific, that's much easier for me.  If you let me know in advance, I can get it out of the storage or work area and have it available for you to examine while you're here.

Do you buy old vent stuff?

Absolutely!  Let's face it, that's how my business and this site came about! Whether it's one item or an entire collection, I'm always interested in what you may have in vent-related items. I'm happy to buy, or you can have a credit against future merchandise purchases or we can trade outright for items on the site.  Whatever you prefer, we'll work it out!

Do you appraise vent-related items?  Dummies, puppets, ephemera, etc?

Certainly.  In fact, I currently appraise all vent-related donations to Vent Haven Museum, Inc.  I have been buying, selling and trading "ventriloquiana" since 1972.  My "Gottle O' Geer" business has been around since 1997.  I have assessed and appraised individual items and collections belonging to the top names in the vent field.  In addition, I've consulted for television ("Pawn Stars" - "Hoarding: Buried Alive" - "Antiques Master" - "History Detectives") and several different museums. Why should you settle for anything less?

If you need an appraisal for any reason - whether for insurance purposes, resale, etc. - do yourself a favor and contact an acknowledged expert.  Just click the "Contact" button above!

Do you have any vent memorabilia or other vent-related stuff that's not on your site?

Oh, my.... YES.  If I add half a dozen items a day - every day - to this site, it'll still take me literally YEARS to get it all online.  And by then, I'll have acquired even more ventriloquiana!  So, please don't hesitate to ask if you're looking for something you don't see.  Who knows? I may have three of them!

Where do you find all of this cool stuff?

You name it...I've probably looked there!  Yard sales, garage sales, junk shops, antique stores, classified ads, specialty periodicals, antique malls, auctions, collector swap meets, and the past, I spent lots of time (and money!) on the big on-line auction giant!  All of that said...the vast majority of my items for resale came from my purchases of pre-existing vent collections.

I see you sell a number of books and booklets with script material you've written.  Can I commission you to write original, custom material for me and my character?

Absolutely!  Publishing a new "Vent Material Yearbook" each year is an exercise for me to keep sharp with comedy writing.  I currently write a fair amount of custom material for various vents and comedians.  I don't have a lot of extra time these days, but I do occasionally accept assignments for creating new material.  I can create new jokes, bits, gags and even complete routines/scripts for you.

Do you give personal lessons in ventriloquism?

I'm asked this all the time.  Truthfully, I haven't given basic lessons in ventriloquism since the mid 1980's. These days, I prefer to work with vents who already know the basics and are interested in further development of specific skillsets, whether it's character development, stage presence, manipulation, development of new voices, refinement or correction of poor technique, etc.  This is really more of a personal coaching situation.  If you're interested in something along this line, please contact me and I'll be more than happy to  discuss it with you.

Do you ship your products internationally?

Of course!  Please see my "Shipping Information" page for details.  As always, if you don't find the exact answer you're looking for there, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail and ask exactly what you need to know.

Are the DVDs you sell compatible with DVD players outside the U.S.?

Most are, a few aren't. That said, any of the DVDs should play in the DVD drive of your home computer, even if you're outside of the U.S.  Of course, if you purchase a DVD from me and end up not being able to play it, I'm happy to take it back in exchange for credit toward other "Gottle O' Geer" purchases.

Do you offer Gift Certificates?

I don't at the moment, but that's only because no one has asked yet!  If you wish to buy a gift certificate for someone, just let me know.  We'll figure it out!

More to come!!!
